چکیده

IN A previous paper (FEINSTEIN and WILLIAMS, 1971) the relationship between the horizontal and vertical saccadic systems was examined. Results indicate that the two orthogonal saccadic systems share a common information processing channel. The series of experiments which are discussed in this paper, are intended to investigate the relationship between the horizontal saccadic and the vertical smooth pursuit system. Since the saccadic system responds to non-predictive aperiodic stimuli and the smooth pursuit system responds to continuous predictive stimuli (RASHBASS, 1961; ROBINSON, 1965), a combination of these

Subjective Visual Vertical and Horizontal Abnormalities in a Patient with Lateral Medullary Syndrome-A Case Report

Introduction: Evaluation of persistent vertigo in post infarct patients is very important as the management depends on whether the cause is purely of central origin or due to associated vestibular affliction.   Case Report: A patient with left sided dorsolateral medullary syndrome and persistent vestibular symptoms was evaluated. Vestibular test battery showed abnormal smooth pursuit, bilateral...

Familial congenital oculomotor apraxia: clinical and electro-oculographic features.

The electro-oculographic (EOG) features of both horizontal and vertical eye movements in congenital oculomotor apraxia (COMA) were not previously reported. A girl referred to the ophthalmologic department for abnormal eye movements was diagnosed as COMA. The same abnormal ocular movements were observed in her younger sister and her father who was unaware of his difficulties to initiate voluntar...

Comparison of Horizontal, Vertical and Diagonal Smooth Pursuit Eye Movements in Normal Human Subjects

We compared horizontal and vertical smooth pursuit eye movements in five healthy human subjects. When maintenance of pursuit was tested using predictable waveforms (sinusoidal or triangular target motion), the gain of horizontal pursuit was greater, in all subjects, than that of vertical pursuit; this was also the case for the horizontal and vertical components of diagonal and circular tracking...

Responses of medial rectus motoneurons in monkeys with strabismus.

PURPOSE Monkeys reared under conditions of alternating monocular occlusion during their first few months of life show large horizontal strabismus, "A" patterns, and dissociated vertical deviation. "A" patterns manifest as an inappropriate horizontal component in the deviated eye during vertical eye movements (cross-axis movement). The objective of this study was to investigate response properti...

Oculomotor and Vestibular Findings in Gaucher Disease Type 3 and Their Correlation with Neurological Findings

Objectives To evaluate the function of the oculomotor and vestibular systems and to correlate these findings with the clinical status of patients with Gaucher disease type 3 (GD3). The goal of this cross-sectional and longitudinal study was to find oculomotor biomarkers for future clinical trials. Methods Twenty-six patients with GD3 were assessed for eligibility and 21 were able to perform a...
